Lot 369: 1940 Citroen Traction Avant
A new factory was built to produce the revolutionary Traction Avant of March 1934. Not only was front wheel drive employed, but also the low-slung body was of unitary construction, front suspension independent via wishbone/torsion bar and brakes fully hydraulic. The radius-arm located live rear axle was sprung by transverse torsion bars. The model became highly popular, not least as transport for George Simenon's Inspector Maigret. Indeed, its popularity spread from politicians and painters to Resistance members and rally drivers, seduced by the car's style and charm. Beginning as the Type 7A at the time of its launch, the Traction Avant underwent a constant development programme, models progressing through the 7B, 7C, llB and llBL until production eventually ceased in 1957. This example constructed in 1949 is finished in red over black with beige interior. It has many period accessories such as thr rare and desirable Pilot wheels. Currently the car is unregistered but is accompanied by all of its paperwork to reregister it for the road.E' la vettura lanciata dalla famosa casa francese sul mercato europeo alla vigilia della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e, per la sua affidabilit, largamente utilizzata anche per uso militare.
