Lot 053: 1961 TRIUMPH TR5 AR 500cc

Shepton Mallet Bike Show, H&H Sales Limited (12 February 2006)

Finished in black with blue / silver tank, this particular example is variously rated by the vendor as being in good (transmission), very good (electrics, frame / suspension) or first class (engine, cycle parts) condition. In his keeping since December 1999 (though, it was re-imported from the USA earlier that year), this handsome bike was "restored as near to original specification as possible" between 2000 and 2001. Treated to a reground crankshaft, rebore and new main / big-end bearings by SRM, the engine also benefited from a refurbished cylinder head (complete with lead free valve seats) courtesy of The Head Shop. While, other upgrades included a 12-volt conversion, the use of stainless steel fasteners throughout and powder coating of the frame / swing-arm. Painted by a South Wales specialist, the Triumph has covered a mere 369 miles since work was completed. Regularly taxed and tested, such light usage has sadly been caused by its keeper's ill health. A rare sight in the UK, this matching numbers machine is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until 18th May 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until 30th April 2006.
