Lot 108: Porsche 944
The 944 was a natural progression for Porsche. The 924 had been around for 5 years and had proved successful. The 4.5 litre 928 had shown that a front engined, super-car challenging Porsche could turn a profit so the 944 was introduced and slotted neatly between the two.Powered by an oversquare, 4-cylinder, 2.5 litre engine, which employed counter rotating balance shafts to iron out any vibration, the 944 was a very capable machine. The coupe body was similar in style to the 944 but was more aggressive and was able to accommodate much wider wheels under the extended arches. Performance was excellent, the handling was sharp and the ride was quite firm.his 1986 example is said to be complete with a comprehensive history file and is offered complete with a Cat 1 alarm/immoboliser (with certificate), 4 matching tyres and original tool kit. The car is equipped with a Sony CD changer, electric windows, mirrors and sunroof, power steering and has been fitted with Porsche Cup alloy road wheels.Finished in garnet red with half leather interior, the car is described as being in good overall condition and is said to drive extremely well.
