Lot 068: 1936 ALVIS 4.3 LITRE TOURER

Motor Car Sale, H&H Sales Limited (13 September 2006)

Finished in red over cream with red upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 2.7 litre engine, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Though, he comments that the four-speed manual gearbox is suffering from a "slight oil leak". Said to have begun life as a saloon, 'EML 461' was reportedly "restored and rebodied" by marque specialists Comptons of Welshpool in the style of an open tourer. Held to be a genuine five-seater with an "exceptional amount of passenger room", the 4.3 Litre has been in the current family ownership since 1991. Apparently benefiting from "100\%" electrical equipment, this handsome yet capacious Alvis is offered for sale with "lots of documents / bills", MOT certificate valid until July 17th 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until June 2007. PLEASE NOTE: Since the catalogue went to press we have been informed that this car (EML 461) combines an original 1936 4.3 Litre chassis (10'7" wheelbase) with a long-stroke Speed 20 engine (approximately 2762cc). Furthermore, while its tourer coachwork bears some similarities to various Vanden Plas designs, it is not an exact replica. We are indebted to Chris Compton and Robin Bendall for their help in this matter. PLEASE NOTE: We have been further informed that this car's engine was rebuilt in November 1993 by Solent Engineering. The work apparently included a rebore / capacity increase and totalled more than 4,700. The relevant invoice (together with many others) may be found in the car's history file.
