Lot : Jaguar E-type S3 V12 FHC Auto

Jaguar Heritage and Classic Cars, Barons (1 May 2007)

The E-Type originally came in Roadster and FHC form but the 2+2 was added to satisfy the American market (by far the largest) in the mid sixties. The FHC and Roadster were built using the original, shorter floorpan but the 2+2 was quite a bit longer. When the S3, V12 version came along in 1971, there were just two versions, Roadster and 2+2, which was now know purely as a FHC. The Roadster shared the same basic floor pan and gained a lot of extra cockpit space but was still a strict 2 seater. The S3 E-Type was created purely for the American market in order to keep the performance ahead of the competition. The 4.2XK engine was being strangulated by USA emission regulations. Power output was suffering so much, it was becoming embarrassing. Other changes were made to the suspension rates, tyre sizes, bodywork and the very recognisable E-Type mouth. For the first time in its 10 year history, the E-Type had a grill. This S3 V12 FHC automatic is being offered on behalf of a family of a gentleman who passed away in 2006. He had owned the car since 1998 and spent a great deal of time and money on the car, during the intervening 8 years. The previous owner had the car for 18 years, from 1980 to 1998. Finished in French blue with contrasting interior leather, the car is offered complete with a number of SNG Barratt invoices, evidence of works carried out by Classic Motor Cars Ltd, a history file containing MoT certificates dating from 1976 and an original Jaguar service booklet. The indicated 55,000 miles is thought to be correct. Described as being in very good condition, with no evidence of corrosion, the car comes complete with the valuable registration number 6588 E, which has been valued at well over 3,000. This is a late "Jaguar Heritage" entry and will not appear in the printed catalogue. A late and replacement list will be available on the day. All, non Heritage, late entries are offered at the end of the sale, even though they may carry consecutive 100 lot numbers.
