Lot 212: Bentley Turbo R
Despite the company stating that it didn't really position itself on the leading edge of fashionable automotive phases it could hardly be denied that the Bentley Turbo R was placed just there. Launched at the Geneva Show in March, 1985, this 135 mph leviathon was a very capable moor car. It was suggested that the Mulsanne Turbo should also remain in production, alongside the Turbo R. This idea was revised when Mulsanne sales dropped at an alamrning rate. The Reason for this was that the Bentley Turbo R was superior in every way, especially handling. With modified front and rear suspension, alloy road wheels on wider tyres and a front air dam the car's handling was in the thoroughbred sports car category. The Bentley Turbo R achieved sales figures which made it one of the best-selling models in Rolls-Royce history.
