Lot 237: Mini Clubman Sports Targa by Domino
Any Mini enthusiast or mechanic will tell you that whilst the oily parts are pretty bomb-proof the body can suffer with rust, sometimes quite badly. There are a number of different ways to address this state of affairs. You can invest in an angle grinder and a spare body panel catalogue, or you can replace the body entirely with a bespoke unit, giving you complete control and individuality. Domino can help you out here, as the body presented here is one of theirs and it works well. The donor vehicle, a 1979 Mini Clubman Estate was in poor condition and so was ready to accept something a little more interesting. The car was originally owned by the son of the owner of Domino and so its creation was in good hands. Painted Ford Cargo grey and Ford Calypso Green, this cheeky example benefits from a stage 2 head linked to a custom twin-pipe exhaust system. The Minilights set off the corners well in contrasting red which is also picked up by the grill and wing mirrors. Weather proofing comes in the form of a full tonneau cover which can be zipped open partway to allow driver only occupancy. An MWS leather steering wheel and gear knob also reflect the external colour cues with music supplied through a high end Sony system with 160 watt speakers set into the doors. Offered at no reserve, there is much to recommend this modern take on a British classic, all of which can be summed up in one word. Fun.
