Lot 322: Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 Convertible

Motorcycle and Motorcars, Bonhams & Butterfields (14 November 2009)

Jaguar's postwar sports models were a runaway success. The first mass-produced twin overhead cam six cylinder engine development was unparalleled and when showcased in the XK120 proved a formidable culmination of style and performance. The XK series evolved through the 140 and 150's modern svelte styling, but in 1958 Jaguar began development of their new sports model. And in 1962 the XKE was born. Literally, taking the world by storm it was the epitome of the XK legend, with close to 150mph performance and handling to match.

The car offered here is an early example of the original and purest XKE. With flat floor and welded louvers on the bonnet, this spectacularly restored car in its original Old English White with red interior is a California native with only two owners in its history. Subject to a nut and bolt and very correct restoration from an accredited restoration shop, the original 61,000 mile car carries a Jaguar Heritage Certificate to confirm the original color scheme and engine number.

Ready to drive or show, this spectacular E-type would take pride of place in any discerning collection.
