Lot 383: BMW 198cc R2 Series 4
Hard economic times in Europe in the early 1930s brought with them a call for a simple and economical BMW model. BMW responded well with the 198cc R2 in 1931 and captured a good share of this market place. Superbly and expensively engineered to BMW's usual exacting standards, it was distinctive in both styling and design, with pressed steel frame, low center of gravity, overhead-valve engine and shaft drive setting it in a class apart from its many competitors.
