Lot 390: NSU Supermax
It is indicative, perhaps, that it was NSU from whom Mr Honda acquired a selection of designs and tooling, following his well-chronicled mid-1950s evaluation trip to Europe. NSU's successful post war run - culminating in a clutch of road race World Championships - epitomises Germany's miraculous industrial recovery. Albert Roder's ahead-of-its-time quarter liter Max - in production for barely four years - is clearly one of the most significant machines of all time.
