Lot 414: Studebaker Transtar V-8 ½ Ton Pickup Truck
The Transtar name was given to Studebaker's 3E truck line in 1956. The styling dated to 1949 and was freshened in 1957 with an unusual fiberglass grille. The makeover was successful and the 1957 and 1958 trucks are more attractive than their earlier brethren. A chrome spear was added to give additional pizazz to the two-tone paint schemes. A V-8 was available in the smaller trucks in the line for the first time.
The offered example is a 1958 model and has the desirable V-8 engine. The unusual grille and the top are green, while the color beneath the chrome accent line is gray. Wide white walls complete the cosmetic package. Four extra wheels come with the vehicle. There is an aftermarket radio and the heater does not seem to be complete.
Trucks are becoming more and more popular with collectors and this one provides an opportunity to restore a truck that won't be seen at every show.
