Lot 18: Bentley Turbo R
In 1985, the Mulsanne Turbo theme was made more extreme with the Turbo R. The new Blower Bentley used the turbocharger and V8 engine of its previous incarnation but complemented it with a Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection. This put power up to 328bhp, not that the discreet Rolls-Royce would ever admit to that, and gave a top speed of 135mph; this velocity had to be electronically limited because of concerns that the tyres wouldn't cope with the weight of the car. Untethered, 170mph was rumoured to be obtainable. Less than 5000 Turbo R's were manufactured between 1985-1995.
This Turbo R was supplied by Harwoods of Pulborough in West Sussex and was first registered in April 1989. With only four previous registered keepers, (the last two in the same family) we present this car in fine running order having been meticulously cared for. The original leather wallet contains the handbooks and service books detailing servicing at Rolls Royce dealers until the end of 1995 and since then by Nene Specialist Cars of Peterborough, being last serviced by them at 114,000miles. Present mileage is 116,000 with an MoT until July 2010. Sporting Acrylic Cobalt Blue paintwork and white fine lines plus "Red Label" badges this Bentley has an incredibly smart exterior. The interior features Dark Blue carpets, top roll and seat piping along with Magnolia seats, headlining, underdash and rear shelf to compliment the overall quality of the finish.
In April 2010, the RREC (Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club) confirmed that the date of manufacture for chassis number SCBZR04A4KCH26788 was officially 16/3/1989, and this, along with an extensive history of the vehicle are included in the sale.
