Lot 37: MG TA Special Roadster

Classic Car Auction, Historics at Brooklands (2 June 2010)

This handsome pointed tail TA Special is finished with British Racing Green wings and an unpainted aluminium body. The chassis is from a 1937 Midget with all aluminium Q Type bodywork. The engine is a full race X-Pag unit fitted with a Big Valve Laystall alloy unleaded head, 36mm/38mm Valves and a baffled sump. A competition Lucas 42846 distributor is also fitted as well as an oil cooler and spin off oil cooler. The clutch is a competition unit mated to a TC gearbox, with a lightened alloy flywheel, 4.9 rear differential and the front brakes have the 2 leading shoe conversion.

It has been used as a fast road race car including demonstrations at 2004 Le Mans Classic and has raced at Montlhery and Circuit Des Remparts, Angouleme. It has also been used at Brooklands sprints and has been to Goodwood on many occasions!

Described by the vendor as 'The ultimate Vintage Rally Sports MG,' this exciting pre-war MG offers all the thrills of open vintage sports motoring at a fraction of the build cost. With a current MoT test certificate valid until September 2010, this well sorted special is ready for competitive summer motoring.
