Lot '16: Volkswagen Golf GTi Competition Car
This August 1981 registered VW Golf GTi MkI has been converted into a competition car suitable for sprints, hill climbs and track days. It is fully road legal and has had an MOT in the past although it is not currently MOTd. The bodywork is very straight and sound and the tiger stripe decals are in removable vinyl. The engine and gearbox are standard 1.6-litre Golf GTi.
The rest of the car is extensively modified and includes the following features: fully adjustable Weitec coilover suspension; polyurethane suspension bushes; uprated disc brakes front and rear; internal fuel and brake lines with a brake bias valve; Safety Devices roll cage and door bars; Monaco FIA-approved seats with full harness seat belts; carbonfibre door panels and bronzed Perspex windows; electronic battery cut-off system; boot-mounted foam-filled competition fuel tank; Autocavan windage plate in the engine; custom wiring loom with diagrams on CD Rom.
The car is in good running order throughout and comes with bills totaling over £5,000 for parts alone plus a quantity of spare parts including an Eibach anti-roll bar with bushes and mounts. It also has a V5C registration document. As these early Golf GTis are now shooting up in value, this one is probably worth the estimate for the bodyshell and engine alone. Leaving that aside, imagine what fun it will be out on the racetrack...
