Lot 119: Bentley Turbo R
Though the company stated that it didn't position itself on the leading edge of fashionable automotive phases, it could hardly be denied that the Turbo R was placed just there. The 135mph Bentley Turbo R was launched at the Geneva Show in March, 1985. It was said that the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo should remain in production too but this decision was revised when, within a short period, interest in that previous model faded at an almost shocking rate because the Bentley Turbo R was superior in handling. Modified front and rear suspension, the first-time use of alloy wheels and wider tyres and a front air dam put the car's handling in the thoroughbred sports car category. The Bentley Turbo R achieved a sales figure which made it one of Rolls-Royce's best-selling models ever with over 5,800 units produced in standard and long wheelbase form.
This British Racing Green model (with active ride) with gold-coloured coachstripe and magnolia hide piped green interior comes form a very caring home and does not suffer the lack of attention that many of its brethren endure. Only recently this car benefitted from new brake discs and pads, new electronics for both the air conditioning unit and the cruise control as well as a new battery. With 122,000 km on the clock and a recent service at 114,000 km, this mighty Bentley has been diligently cared for since new and boasts additional factory options such as leather headlining (which added another 10,000 DM to the purchase price) as well as picnic tables for the rear passengers. Not to be missed.
