Lot 034: BMW 635CSi

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (13 July 2011)

BMW's new coupe arrived in 1976, replacing the fabulous CS and CSL models. The new 6-Series E24 shared much of its chassis with the 5-Series, and was offered with two engine choices, a 2.8 litre or a 3.5 litre straight-six. The lovely shark nose design was originally built at the Karmann factory, however production was soon moved in-house at BMW. In 1982 the car received a face lift, at the same time changing to a new longer stroke version of the 3.5 litre producing 215bhp, sufficient to allow sustained 140mph autobahn driving. A BMW factory email confirms that this example was built on 4th December 1984 and it was first registered on 9th January 1985. Sold new through Sytners of Nottingham to a Mr Parker, the car was subsequently sold in late 1990 to a family friend of the vendor, who has therefore known the car for nearly 21 years. It has now covered 103,000 miles and has a full BMW service history to 95,000 miles, after which it has received attention from several specialists. Complete with a full set of handbooks, service book and history, welcome letter and spare keys, the vendor confirms that everything works on the car and that the engine runs very sweetly indeed. He has recently fitted a new rear bumper, the inner trim panel of which will be fitted prior to the sale. The vendor has confirmed that it will carry a 12 month MOT and is a sound and genuine example with an exemplary history file.
