Lot 060: Mercedes-Benz E320 Coupe
Launched in 1987 and remaining in production until 1997, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124 Series) is widely recognised as the last of the 'over-engineered' Mercedes models before cost-cutting began to erode the marque's once impregnable reputation for money-no-object design. Available in saloon, estate, coupe and convertible guises with a bewildering array of petrol and diesel engine options, it was perhaps most elegant in the coupe form you see here.
Beautifully balanced and equipped with Mercedes' superlatively sure-footed multi-link rear suspension, it had nicely weighted power-assisted steering and excellent disc brakes. Introduced in 1993, the E320 Coupe was powered by a silky smooth 224bhp 3.2-litre straight-six engine with automatic transmission and could hit 140mph.
Dating from 1995, this Onyx Grey Metallic coupe has a grey check-cloth sports interior and also benefits from the Sports chassis with quicker steering and firmer suspension. With some 119,000 miles on the clock and 13 service stamps to date, the vendor states that it has recently undergone significant fettling at MB Worcester to make it absolutely top notch including fitting new headlamp wiper motors, a new aerial and a new steering damper.
Equipment includes central locking, ABS, electric windows and sunroof, airbags, OTG, rear parking sensors, headlamp wash/wipe, folding armrests front and rear and 8-hole alloys. Supplied with a current MOT and tax, it is said to be in excellent condition and superb to drive.
