Lot 112: Porsche 911 2.7 Sportomatic

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (13 July 2011)

The 2.7-litre version of the legendary Porsche 911 was launched in 1974 with 150bhp and 174lb/ft of torque in standard tune, rising to 210bhp in RS tune. It remained in production until 1977 when it was replaced by the 3.0-litre SC model.

First registered in November 1975, this particular 2.7 is fitted with the Sportomatic gearbox which is explained in the catalogue description for Lot 85. This car is said to be in excellent running order and comes with many bills to show careful maintenance over the years. These include a bill from Exeter Porsche Centre in 1989 for an engine and gearbox rebuild and some bodywork restoration which cost the owner, Lt Commander DR George, almost £7,300.

The car was treated to a major service earlier this month when the torque converter was also replaced at a total cost of some £2,000. The indicated mileage of 72,607 is believed to be genuine but there is insufficient history to warrant this. Equipment includes electric sunroof, electric windows and electric driver's side mirror. With an MOT until April 2012, this car is on the button and ready to go.
