Lot 15: Bristol 408 Mk I,

Classics, Charterhouse (17 July 2011)

The Bristol408 was produced between 1963 and 1966 in Mk I& Mk II versions. The 408 was the second modelto incorporate the Chrysler V8 engine in theBristol model range. The 407, the 408'spredecessor, was a first and was a major departurefrom previous Bristol models, which had alwaysused their own six cylinder engines. HPF 399C, aMk I version was first registered on the 13th April1965 and was finished with grey coachwork andgrey leather interior. The current custodian hasprepared the bodywork for the final top coat of paint, at present the chassis has been repaired andrepair sections have been welded into the innerwheel arches and other panels. The body hasreceived coats of etch primer and a guide coat forfinal flatting down before the application of thetop coats of paint. The leather interior appears inquite good condition and would respondfavourably to a good clean and feed. The vendorinforms us that HPF 399C is running and hasuprated front brakes supplied by Coopercraft. This exciting and rare barn find restoration project(83 Mk I & Mk II 408s were manufactured) nowoffers the next owner an opportunity to finish therestoration at their own pace, benefiting fromhaving had a lot of the hard work and expensealready carried out.
