Lot 122: Triumph TR3

Classic Car Sale, Charterhouse (22 April 2012)

TS13730LO, Old English white. The Triumph TR3 was produced between 1955 and 1962, following on from the previous TR2. It incorporated virtually all of the TR2's running gear, including the engine, which was in a slightly higher state of tune. A true 100 mph sports car, it was the first mass produced car to incorporate front disc brakes which were introduced from 1957. The TR3 went through two distinct phases of development, unofficially known as A and B; from 1958 the A had a full width grill fitted which incorporated the side lights and, from 1962, the B version had a larger 2.2 litre engine, the majority of which were exported to North America. This TR3 comes from the second year of production and has the desirable disc front brakes. Attractively presented in the traditional colour scheme of Old English white with a black leather interior piped in white, and has full weather gear. She has received regular specialist maintenance over the years, rather than having had a full restoration, which gives her an air of originality and patina, which is so often lost with a full restoration. The history file attests to the high level of maintenance with recent receipts for approximately 11,500. These include a new aluminium radiator, petrol tank, clutch, brake overhaul, shock absorbers, and a Revington Logic Overdrive gearbox. This well fettled example now awaits a new owner to enjoy her in the summer months ahead. V5C, ***MOT to March 2013 not April***, tax exempt
