Lot 010: BMW 25i Convertible

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (16 May 2012)

The superb E30 series of BMW compact saloons and coupes ran from 1982 until 1994 and, in many enthusiasts eyes, were the last of the real driver-focussed models before BMW followed its rivals by making increasingly heavy and desensitised machines which may have been faster and plusher, but had also lost much of the pep and brio of the simpler and lighter models. It is worth remembering that the first M3, widely regarded as the finest handling BMW ever made, was based on the E30 chassis and is now seriously expensive and collectable today. One of the nicest models in the E30 line up was the 325i Convertible, launched in 1985. This was powered by a fabulously smooth and quick-revving 2.5-litre straight-six that produced 169bhp and 166lb/ft of torque. Driving through a 5-speed Getrag manual gearbox, it could launch the car to 60mph in just 7.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 140mph. Every Yuppie's dream, it was the car to have in the late Eighties and good ones are now increasingly sought after. First registered in November 1987, this particular car has the automatic transmission which slightly blunts the performance but makes it much more relaxing around town. Presented in metallic dark red with a biscuit leather interior it has covered some 126,300 miles to date with a good service history including a new cam belt kit at 116,000 miles. Said to be in very good condition for its age, it was recently fitted with a new hood. Taxed until August and due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, all it needs now is a new owner behind the wheel and a sunny day on which to enjoy it! CATALOGUE AMENDMENT: THIS CAR WAS SUBJECT TO A CATEGORY D (DAMAGED / REPAIRABLE) INSURANCE CLAIM IN FEBRUARY 2007. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THE MOT WAS NOT COMPLETED IN TIME FOR THE SALE. UPON ARRIVAL WE HAVE DETECTED A FAULT WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. REVISED ESTIMATE.
