Lot 051: Bentley Brooklands

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (16 May 2012)

The ultra-luxurious Bentley Brooklands was introduced in 1992 as a replacement for the Bentley Mulsanne and Bentley Eight models. A very sporting machine, it shared the same styling and underpinnings as the more expensive Turbo R and had the same magnificent 6.75-litre engine but without the turbocharger it still packed a 300bhp punch which was more than adequate for most owners. Fuel economy was also 12% better than the Mulsanne thanks to a new engine management system and various other modifications to the intake manifold and the cylinder heads.

Suspension was independent all round (self-leveling to the rear) with computer-governed Automatic Ride Control and four-wheel ABS disc brakes. Transmission was a silky smooth four-speed auto. Inside the Brooklands was as luxurious as ever with acres of leather and light-grain walnut, tilt steering wheel and an improved air conditioning system. Capable of 133mph and initially priced at 91,500 to you, sir, it remained in production until replaced by the Arnage in 1998, by which time some 1,208 standard wheelbase cars had been made.

First registered in August 1994, this particular Brooklands has only covered 68,000 miles from new with 10 service stamps to date, the last about 9,000 miles ago. It has been in the current ownership for the last four years and had just three keepers before that.

Presented in classic Balmoral Green with an oatmeal hide interior piped in green, the car is said to be in very good condition throughout and to drive beautifully. Taxed until July and MOTd until late August, it comes with all its original handbooks, two sets of keys, the original Bentley car care kit and original tape cassette of Rolls-Royce approved driving music! (Presumably no Boyzone or gangsta rap there then&). These luxurious motorcars are a delight to drive or be driven in and this low mileage example looks huge value at the modest guide price suggested today.
