Lot 202: Ducati 749R

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (16 May 2012)

The 749R was a true racing version of the wonderful 749. It featured a short stroke motor, using many titanium components, hot cams and bigger valves. A steering damper and a carbon fairing further differentiate this from the road going version. This 2004 749R bears the limited edition number 749R 0655. Its owner, having already emigrated to Australia, had arranged to ship the bike out to join him. Already perfectly prepared, crated and ready to go he discovered the true cost of importing such a machine into that country plus the difficulties associated with the red tape. He has reluctantly decided to sell the bike here and purchase a replacement locally. The vendor adds that it has had a fortune spent on it, including a race gearbox, higher ratios now being selected by pushing down to engage rather than lifting up. He goes on to say that it has been super chipped and now produces some 150bhp and that he has spent a fortune on carbon fibre. Sitting on slick tyres it has been used as a track bike, however would be simple to put back into road spec. It is in immaculate condition and due to have a new battery before it arrives onsite so we will be able to verify the mileage and hear it running prior to the sale something we are all looking forward to very much! CATALOGUE AMENDMENT: The vendor informs us that it has a race gearbox, has been chipped and that he has spent a fortune on carbon fibre components. The mileage shows just 1600 miles.
