Lot 211: Aston Martin V8 Volante 7.0-Litre

Aston Martin and Lagonda Motor Cars, Bonhams (19 May 2012)

On fast and smooth roads, the Volante's handling is remarkably impressive; the big car turns in cleanly with a trace of understeer. In tighter corners, firm use of the throttle will push the tail wide, but the slide is gradual and virtually self-correcting.' Fast Lane. First registered as 'CVT 929T', this V8 Volante was sold new via the Robin Hamilton dealership to Mr R Amsdon, PRA Company, New Cross, London in May 1979. The car was delivered finished in Florida Blue with fawn leather interior trim and matching hood. In September 1980 (at 8,658 miles) the Volante was sold to G A Boundey Ltd of London E5 and re-registered 'GJP 4', changing hands one month later when ownership transferred to Bauer Millet & Co of Epping for onward sale. Re-registered again, on this occasion as 'EVU 127T', the Aston was purchased in January 1982 (at circa 22,000 miles) by the previous owner, Gavin Keyzar of Burley, Hampshire. The vendor purchased 'EVU 127T' via R S Williams in April 2004 (at circa 80,000 miles) and all bills for servicing and maintenance prior to this date are available, including numerous MoTs and tax discs contained in a large file. Immediately after acquisition RSW up-rated the engine to 7.0-litre specification, re-sprayed the car in Warwick Blue and carried out a comprehensive interior makeover that included re-trim in blue-piped magnolia Connolly leather with blue carpets, new black hood, double headrests, later type armrests, new auxiliary switches, Vantage steering wheel, re-trimmed dashboard top roll, and refinished door-cappings and gear leaver knob, the total cost of all these works being 75,000. In 1998, the engine was rebuilt by RSW following overheating issues caused by vermin. The invoice on file records the mileage at this time as 7,236 (i.e. 107,236 from new). RSW has maintained the car throughout the vendor's period of ownership. Recent maintenance includes work on the suspension, kingpins, brakes, cooling system and engine mounts, etc plus fitting new tyres in August 2007 at 14,627 (114,627) miles at a cost of 15,000 while in October '87 RSW carried out further works to the chassis/sills costing 10,000. Little used during the last ten years as the vendor has been working/living overseas, the car has been stored by RSW and re-commissioned and fully serviced by them ready for sale (see bill for 10,000 on file). The current mileage total is 15,245 (115,245). The car is offered with the aforementioned service history, old-style logbook, photographs of the 7.0-litre conversion, dynamometer sheets, MoT to February 2013, Swansea V5 document and a spare set of keys.
