Lot 247: Ferrari 308 GTB

Cars & Motorcycles, Historics at Brooklands (26 May 2012)

The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris motor show in 1975 and was built alongside the 308 GT4 and as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferrari's including the Daytona, the new 308 sported a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years of production the body of the 308 was produced in fibreglass after which steel was used. The 308 shared a similar tube frame chassis as the original Dino and 308 GT4 and four-wheel double-wishbone independent suspension. The engine was a V8 unit positioned behind the driver and was transversely mounted with double overhead camshafts and four 40DCNF Weber carburettors complemented by the five speed synchromesh manual gearbox. This splendid Ferrari 308 GTB was acquired by the current vendor in 2002 and has been a highly loved and cherished car since. Always garaged in a Carcoon and meticulously maintained, the vendor describes the car as being excellent to drive. The engine instantly bursts into life at the turn of the key and the familiar sound of the three litre V8 confirms that the fastidious owners have spared no expense in looking after their prized possession. Finished in the traditional colour combination of red with black interior, this 308GTB is supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 25th January 2013, together with a very comprehensive history file, a spare set of original wheels and a custom made car cover. Ferrari's in this condition at this price are rare; you won't be disappointed.
