Lot 272: Jaguar XJS

Cars & Motorcycles, Historics at Brooklands (26 May 2012)

The Jaguar XJS is a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 to 1996 and replaced the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJS was a competent replacement with better aerodynamics than the E-Type. The last XJS was produced on 4th April 1996, by which time 115,413 had been produced during a 21-year production life and its specifications compared well against Italian cars with acceleration of 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. The first series of XJS cars had a Borg-Warner Model 12 transmission; however, in 1979, GM Turbo-Hydromatic 400 transmissions were fitted. In 1983, a new 3.6 litre AJ6 straight-six engine was introduced, a hugely flexible unit and an extremely popular option. Presented in burgundy with a contrasting cream leather interior, this sporting tourer comes complete with a full service history as well as an MoT test certificate valid until March, 2013. Also present is a UK V5C certificate, service record and handbook all stored in the original Jaguar owner's wallet. Described by the vendor as extremely good both mechanically and cosmetically, the XJS is due for a revival; invest now and stay ahead of the curve.
