Lot 294: Bentley Continental Convertible

Cars & Motorcycles, Historics at Brooklands (26 May 2012)

From its motor car production in 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous with prestige, performance and luxury. The finest Bentleys of the post-war period were designated 'Continental'; a title which was re-introduced in 1984 in the form of the Bentley Continental Convertible; and an example of which from 1992 is available today. This Bentley Continental was powered by a 90 degree V8 engine which incorporated an aluminium-silicon alloy block, aluminium cylinder heads and cast iron wet cylinder liners. The bore was 4.1" and the stroke was 3.9" giving a total of 6.75 litres. Fuel was supplied via a Bosche MK-Motronic fuel injection system with drive provided via a four speed (plus reverse) automatic GM Hydromatic gearbox. A four-wheel independent hydraulic self levelling suspension system and four wheel disc brakes with ventilated discs was specified. A factory top speed was quoted as 131 mph. Designed by John Blatchley and produced by the renowned coachbuilders Mulliner/Park Ward, this Bentley was first registered in June 1992 and is sadly on offer today on behalf of the deceased owner's estate. The car was originally supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd, London who also carried out the majority of the services up to a mileage of 85764 covering the period 1992 to 2007. Other services were carried out by other Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, and more recent works are recorded within the history file. The vehicle is recorded as having only two previous keepers. Presented with Bordeaux coachwork and complemented by St. James magnolia hide with red piping, this Continental shows little sign of use. The car comes complete with red over mats and a wallet that includes owner's handbook, vehicle identification booklet, warranty booklet, sales and service handbook, service schedule book and service record book. The lined hood is in excellent order and operates up and down as it should. There is also a hood cover for when the hood is in the stowed position; this cover is of the same colour and material as the hood. Currently on SORN, the Bentley does benefit from an MoT certificate valid until 5th December 2012. This represents a wonderful opportunity for luxury Bentley ownership and is a magnificent motor car that appears to have been well cared for.
