Lot 173: Jaguar E-type S1 3.8 FHC

Annual Jaguar Heritage + Sports and Prestige Cars, Barons (28 May 2012)

This is the definitive E-type Jaguar - Series One 3.8 FHC. This is the car that launched a legend in October 1961. The roadster may attract more money but the first generation fixed head, 2 seat coupe is, by far, the prettiest of all E-types. Annoying things like safety and uniform regulations eventually ruined the original Malcolm Sayer design and necessity eventually consigned the E-type top history. But it remains one of the most beautiful cars of all time and the S1 FHC is the best of the bunch. This 1963 example has, during the vendors ownership. benefited from a full, bare metal repaint (2009/10), rear suspension rebuild, stainless exhaust system and new, vitreous enamel manifolds, engine and box removed, Moss gearbox overhauled and new oil pump fitted to engine, new rear light assemblies, new door handles and other brightwork, plus, in the last month, new chrome wire wheels shod with Dunlop SP Sport tyres. Finished in deep read with read leather, the car is thought to have covered just 69,500 miles, it is offered complete with a new MoT, 12 months Historic tax and a nice history file. This car represents outstanding value for money.
