Lot 179: Mercedes-Benz SL320
The Mercedes SL dates back to the 300SLR look-a-like 190 of the nineteen fifties but the most influential SL was the Pagoda, which replaced the 190 in 1963 and was available with a 2.3, 2.5 and latterly a 2.8 six cylinder engine.
The SL was again updated in 1971 but the new car borrowed heavily from the "Pagoda". Though bigger and heavier, the new car managed to retain the classic looks and the model continued to be the choice of the rich and famous. It was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty without an SL making an appearance. After 18 years in production, this iconic open tourer was finally replaced by the, all new, W129 SL. This new model owed nothing to nostalgia but came straight out of the 1980's wedge book of styling and there were many nervous accountants at Mercedes. This new model had to fill some pretty big boots and, fortunately, it did its job, eventually.
This very nice 129-series SL320 Convertible has both electric soft top ( in nice condition ) and removeable hard top in a very attractive colour combination.
The car is in very nice original condition with excellent paintwork and the car is free of any corrosion, scuffs etc. The leather is also in lovely condition.
Offered complete with full Mercedes service history - with 17 stamps in the service book. The last service was carried out in December 2011 at 110,000 miles so the car should provide a lot of trouble free open air motoring.
Finished in blue black metallic the car comes complete with MoT through to May 2013 and Tax through to August 2012
