Lot 183: Porsche 928 S4

Annual Jaguar Heritage + Sports and Prestige Cars, Barons (28 May 2012)

Launched in 1977 the 928 was the second of Porsches front engined cars, this time the power plant came in the shape of a 4.4 litre V8 which produced 240bhp. Most 928's were made with automatic transmission, these cars appealed to executive motorists more than the discerning 911 owner, indeed the older 911 was a quicker car by far. Only ever available as a 2 door Coupe (apart from a one off 4 door car for the Porsche chairman!), the 928 had a quirky style. Styling features included headlamps that popped up when in use and plastic, de-formable front and rear bumpers. The 928 soldiered on into the 1990's as the 928 S2 and S4. Over 17,000 cars were built in tota This is a lovely example of the last and best of this model. The original 928 won Car of the Year in 1977 and this final incarnation saw many improvements on the already impressive original model. This particular car has had 2 owners in the last 9 years and its low mileage is backed up by an impressive service history with 14 stamps in the book including a cambelt change at 72,000 miles. Attractively finished in Marine Blue with Pale Grey Leather, this iconic Grand Tourer is great value for money.
