Lot 195: Mercedes-Benz 380SL

Annual Jaguar Heritage + Sports and Prestige Cars, Barons (28 May 2012)

The Mercedes SL dates back to the 300SLR look-a-like 190 of the nineteen fifties but the most influential SL was the Pagoda, which replaced the 190 in 1963. The clever hood mechanism and factory hard top gave this model a wide appeal. With the "Pagoda" hard top in place, one could be excused for believing one was riding in a fixed head coupe, but with the hood retracted into its stowage space, the car had beautifully uncluttered lines. The SL was updated in 1971 but the new car borrowed heavily from the "Pagoda". Though bigger and heavier, the new car managed to retain the classic looks and the model continued to be the choice of the rich and famous. It was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty without an SL making an appearance. Offered here is a superb 1985 example of the 3.8 V8 SL, which has covered a warranted 55,000 miles from new and has been equipped with the optional rear seat. It is described as being in very good condition, commensurate wit the low mileage and is complete with both tops. Finished in white with blue interior, the has a current MoT.
