Lot 206: Jaguar XJR Sport Saloon
First seen in 3.6-litre form in 1988, the XJR incorporated stiffened suspension, 16" Speedline wheels and revised steering, the result being a more responsive car with greatly improved handling and roadholding. Externally the XJR was readily distinguishable from the standard offering by virtue of its colour-matched body kit, four-headlamp front end and boot-lid spoiler. When the new 4.0-litre AJ6 24-valve six became available in September 1989, the version fitted to the XJR came with increased horsepower (up from 235 to 251bhp) though the fitting of a catalyst in 1990 clawed back a few of the extra horses. There was a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and the 4.0-litre XJR came with a limited-slip differential as standard. Along with the rest of the range, the XJR benefited from the greatly improved dashboard and control layout adopted for 1990 onwards.
This example was sold new in June 1995 to the current first and only owner by Caffyns, who have serviced it on 13 occasions since then (see stamped book), the last occasion being in 2008 at 53,303 miles. The vehicle is offered complete with the aforementioned service book, owner's wallet, instruction manual, Swansea V5 registration document and fresh MoT to March 2013.
