Lot 102: MG TF

Fine Motor cars incl. The Jaguar Legend, Coys (14 July 2012)

The MG T series included the TA, TB, TC, TD, and TF models, a range of body-on-frame convertible sports car produced in sequence from 1936 to 1955. The last of these models, the TF, was replaced by the MGA. The TF launched in 1953 was a facelifted TD, fitted with the TD Mark II engine, headlights fared into the fenders, a sloping radiator grille, and a new pressurised cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap. This particular example is one of the purer, early type TFs. It has been part of a private collection for many years, and, according to the vendor, is supplied with continuous history from day one, most importantly a large history file containing all invoices for the past 20 years, including all previous MoT;s and tax discs. It is clear to see LRD 233 has been lovingly maintained and continuously used. The vendor informs us the car is remarkably original and as sound as the day it was made. The rebuilt engine and gearbox , are of course all matching numbers. LRD 233 was subject to a chassis up rebuild in 1989 /1990 when it was finished in Black with a complementary red interior. More recently LRD 233 has been subject to a carburettor rebuild and a new fuel pump. On sale immediately after a full service, the vendor describes the TF as driving beautifully. MG TFs offer the best of both worlds: stylish pre-war looks with the improved performance and usability of the post-war era. A lovely looking, practical car, and also an appreciating asset.
