Lot 120: Jensen Interceptor III Convertible
The Jensen Interceptor was hand-built between 1966 and 1976. The car broke with Jensen tradition by having a steel body shell instead of glass-reinforced plastic and by having the body designed by an outside firm, Carrozzeria Touring of Italy, rather than by the in-house staff.
The convertible as offered here is fitted with a powered soft top and was introduced in 1974 mainly intended for the American market, but also sold in Europe. At the time of its release, the Convertible epitomized the highest standards reached by the West Bromwich car-maker.
Perhaps the most glamorous and prestigious model in the long line of Interceptor variants, only 267 convertibles were made, and with only two previous owners, this magnificent Jensen Interceptor III Convertible shows just 26,000 miles. We are informed that the car performs as well today as when it was new.
The car's reputation as the top model has not diminished with time. The second owner, Mr Dennis Scott of Rochester, USA, is the chairman of the Detroit Championship Auto Shows and maintained the car meticulously.
Finished in grey coachwork with tan leather interior and matching new black mohair roof, this superb original example with extremely rare left hand drive is supplied with its original handbook, full set of work manuals as well as a V5 registration document and MoT certificate valid until September 2013.
With the original wheels refurbished, this example is described as being in excellent condition throughout; a fine, rare British sports convertible that is surely a sound investment and will only increase in collectability and value.
