Launched in 1945, the TC Midget was the first post-war MG, although it was quite similar to the pre-war TB, sharing the same pushrod-OHV engine; however it had a slightly higher compression ratio of 7.4:1 giving 54.5 bhp (40.6 kW) at 5200 rpm, the use of more modern interior elements allowed for a wider cockpit. The makers also provided several alternative stages of tuning for specific purposes.
It was exported to the United States, even though only ever built in right-hand drive. Between September 1945 (chassis number TC0251) and Novemeber 1949 (chassis number TC10252), exactly 10,000 were produced, costing 527 on the home market in 1947. The tachometer was directly in front of the driver, while the speedometer was on the other side of the dash in front of the passenger.
This was one of the last MG TCs produced in 1949; purchased by the current vendor in 1964, it has been kept and used by the same owner since then. Finished in arguably the best and most desirable colour combination for a TC black over tan the car is supplied with UK V5 registration documents and a variety of bills and receipts, as might be expected for a car of such lengthy ownership.
This MG TC has to be among the most original cars on the market, and is described to be in good, though un-restored, condition. HWP 245 represents a unique opportunity to acquire a wonderful car with a lot of character, still imbued with post-war charm.
