Lot 53: Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda Roadster

Classics Cars, Charterhouse (15 July 2012)

The W113 series of Mercedes sports cars were produced between 1963 and 1971. All models were fitted with a straight six engine with Bosch multi point fuel injection. The Pagoda name came about from the shape of the hardtop, which was dished in the centre with high flanks resembling the shape of a Japanese pagoda roof. The W113 series of cars was fitted with a fully retractable soft top, which sat beneath a metal tonneau cover, and when the hard top is fitted it gives the impression that it is a full fixed head coupe. This automatic 230 SL has resided on Jersey for many years, returning to these shores in 1988. The vendor informs us that in around 1980, the car was fitted with a new engine in Germany by Hellebusch Mercedes Ofsterfeine, and in 1985 the interior was professionally reupholstered in blue leather. The blue hood is in excellent condition and all of the chrome work presents very well. The bodywork is in very sound, clean and presentable condition, but the paintwork would benefit from attention in a few small areas. The car has had limited but continuous use during the past thirty years, covering a very small mileage during that time. V5C, MOT to June (not July) 2013, tax to July 2012 See illustrations
