Lot 103: BMW 320i Cabriolet (E30)

Classic, Collectors, Sports and Prestige Cars, Barons (16 July 2012)

The BMW E30 was released in 1982 and replaced by the BMW E36 in 1990. BMW continued to produce the cabriolet (convertible) E30 well into 1993 and the touring until 1994. The 3 series cars were powered by a range of inline 4-cylinder (BMW M10 - BMW M40 & BMW M42) and inline 6-cylinder (BMW M20 and BMW M21) Offered here is a 1989 E30 320i cabriolet, which has been professionally equipped with an M50, DOHC, 24 valve engine and a limited slip differential all driving through the Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. This makes this a very quick and, with the limited slip differential, a very stable motor car. The car is described as being an, all round, great car to own and drive. Finished in midnight blue with black, sports interior, the car comes complete with a file of bills and history, a service booklet, an MoT through to May 2013 and is taxed through to December 2012 Compared with its M20 predecessor, the M50 features twin camshafts and 4 valves per cylinder. The M50 uses an iron block with an alloy head. This engine produced 189 bhp at 4700, which compares to 123 for the 320 6 and 168 for the 12-valve 325-6 up to 1987 and 171 thereafter. A lot of powerful, alfresco motoring for very little money.
