Lot 037: MG B GT

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (18 July 2012)

Introduced in 1965, the gorgeous Pininfarina styled MGB GT 2+2 was largely based on the convertible, using a taller windscreen and new roof line. The MGB was an enormous success and its popularity as an affordable fun car has not diminished with time. Until the arrival of the Mazda MX5, in many ways its spiritual successor, the MGB remained the most popular sports car of all time. Furthermore its 95bhp B-Series engine with twin 1 SU carbs makes for a 105mph top speed. Their reliability, performance and excellent handling mean that there is no reason why they cannot be used every day. This prime 1970 example has had a bare shell restoration. The underside of the car is in superb condition, with evidence of a fortune being spent ensuring it has been kept right up to scratch. Painted an attractive metallic blue from a later MG, it has a new leather interior, new leaf springs and dampers, a stainless steel exhaust, new windscreen and trim, replacement seatbelts, new Minilite-style alloy wheels and looks superb throughout. MOTd until May 2013 and text exempt, there really is nothing left to do but drive it. This car is offered at a fraction of the cost of restoring one to this standard. Catalogue amendment; Please note the vendor reports that the seats are trimmed in viynl piped blue and not leather as stated.
