Lot 038: Mercedes-Benz SL280

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (18 July 2012)

Come on, admit it, who hasn't secretly lusted after one of these glamorous roadsters ever since they were launched back in 1989? Beautifully built and just exuding class, they were strictly for the rich and famous when new but have now dropped to a temptingly affordable price. A wide range of engines were available from a mighty 6-litre V12 to the creamy smooth 2.8-litre straight-six you see here. With 204bhp on tap, it could sprint to 60mph in around 9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 141mph with up to 33mpg economy. Dating from March 1994, this two-tone green example with a beige leather interior has clearly been pampered throughout its life to date. It has covered some 142,600 miles with no fewer than 17 service stamps in the book, the last only about 1,200 miles ago. Equipment includes the desirable rear seat option, wind deflector, CD player and an impressively wide set of Mercedes alloy wheels! Supplied with both hard and soft tops, both in good condition, it also comes with all its original handbooks and original first aid kit. Said to drive beautifully, it is taxed until November with an MOT until May next year and is ready to drive away today.
