Lot 063: MG B Roadster

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (18 July 2012)

The MkIII version of the MGB came out in 1972 and was initially virtually indistinguishable from its forebears apart from a more modern interior with improved heating and ventilation. However, from 1974 it was fitted with large rubber bumpers to comply with US safety legislation and the ride height was raised by 25mm to bring the headlamps up to the approved US minimum height. Performance remained pretty much unchanged and it was still capable of 100mph with plenty of torque for relaxed cruising. Dating from March 1977, this particular Roadster has been converted to more attractive chrome bumper spec and fitted with chrome wire wheels for a more sporting look. Being a later car it benefits from the stronger 5-bearing crank, high compression head, electric cooling fan and oil cooler that were all standard on models from this era. Apart from the fact that it is British Racing Green with a black interior, we have been able to establish very little about the history of this car at the time of cataloguing. However, the vendor tells us that it is in good overall condition and drives very well and it comes with an MOT until January 2013.
