Lot 206: Triumph Metisse Scrambler
Brothers Don and Derek Rickman were motocross champions and bike design innovators. The fine-handling Metisse frames that they developed outshone factory efforts and were made for a wide variety of four-stroke singles and twins. The frame seen here is fitted to a 650cc Triumph scrambler that dates from the 1960s. The vendor states that: This bike was bought in early 2008 from the West Country to compete in the British and Welsh Classic Championship. The bike is very quick and won first time out with a young lad who beat none other than European champion Terry Challinor, despite never having ridden a 4-stroke classic before. The bike was ridden three more times that year before going into a private collection. It came out again in 2010 for a Welsh Championship meeting near Cardigan where it was ridden by none other than Bill Gwynn, the 1960s motocross rider who comes from the Cardigan area. Bill had six starts and finishes with the bike on the day and really enjoyed it. Signed photographs of Bill on the bike can be made available to the winning bidder. The bike runs and rides extremely well and sounds beautiful. It is ready to race and is easily capable of winning at any of today's classic meetings with the right man in the saddle.
