Lot 1008: BSA ZB32 Trials

Cambridge Vintage Sale, Cheffins (28 July 2012)

The restoration and earlier history of this Sparkling Goldie has been well covered in a three page article in August 2002 Classic Bike magazine (copy supplied). Originally supplied as a 500cc iron-barrelled XB33 in trials trim, the 1951 alloy barrelled Gold Star engine was fitted later to make the machine even more competitive and it competed in several of the famous Talmag Trials and many other events. The previous owner John Fryatt completely and professionally rebuilt the bike as a ZB32 in 1951 works trim but for road use. A spectacular machine fitted with TT carburettor and competition gearbox and owned by a VMCC member for the last 9 years who states that only routine maintenance has ever been required and has been ridden at the Manx rally 5 times at least as well as many club runs and shows, indeed, Best in Show has been taken at Knebworth in past years. A supplied buff logbook chronicles the ownership between 1950 and 1961 and a BSAOC extract from the factory despatch records confirms the provenance of both machine and engine. Also supplied is the current V5C and new MOT certificate. It would be difficult to find another rigid framed, tele Gold Star as good as this with a well covered history.
