Lot 119: Porsche 912 (LHD)

Classic - Collectors & Sports Cars, Barons (9 June 2013)

Visually very similar to the 911, 4 cylinder 912 first appeared in 1965 effectively replacing the 356C. Mechanically the 912 used the suspension from the 911 and latterly the the 911 dual-circuit brakes, but was powered by the  356, 1582cc engine The 912 came in both Coupe and Targa formats and later cars used the revised longer wheelbase of the sister 911. The 912 were particularly popular in the USA, indeed the 912 actually reappeared in 1975, for the US market only, as the 912E. Apart from this brief reappearance in 1975 the production of the 912 finished in 1969, by then over 30,000 cars had been built. While equipped with less power that the 911, the 912 was lighter by some 250lb (113kg) so its 90bhp flat four gave good performance and the chassis offered excellent handling. In 1966 the 912 actually outsold the 911. The 912 offered here was purchased from Porsche specialist, 911 Ltd, Newark in Sept 2002 as an import from California. Since purchase the car has been maintained with annual servicing by Porsche specialists. The under body has been waxed to prevent rust and in 2003 the chassis was checked and balanced with new shock absorbers by Machtech JZ, Kings Langley. The car is currently serviced and maintained by Revival Cars, Porsche 911/912 specialists Has original wooden steering wheel and nacelle , with vintage Bosch radio. Car is used for weekly journeys and the engine and mechanics are described as being Finished in silver with black interior, the car is offered complete with an MoT certificate through to Nov 2013 and historic tax through to February. Rare and desirable model.
