Launched alongside the new Austin/Morris1100 MK2, the Austin 1300 MK2 came in 2 door, 4door saloon and Countryman (estate car) versions as on the previous 1100 Mk1 model. Powered by a 1275cc variant of the A-series engine the standard 1300's had improved performance making this small family car even better than before.
In 1971 a revised MK3 version arrived with revised trim and body details, in 1969 a high performance 1300GT version joined the range featuring a twin-carb version of the same engine, this variant gave a top speed of 93mph, quite respectable for such a small saloon.
Production finally finished in 1974 after the launch of the controversial Allegro range. Practical Classics February 2006 - Featuring Buyers Guide Austin BMC 1100 & 1300 (1962-1973). Click Here to view in our shop.
