Mercedes-Benz 220S/SE Cabriolet
Cabriolet,2 doors,4 seats
Mercedes added a touch of glamour to its mid-range 200 series by including attractive Coupe and Cabriolet versions as alternatives to the usual four door saloon body. Available in either 220S or 220SE (fuel injected) specification both models used a 2195cc six cylinder engine and a servo assisted brake system.
The Cabriolet had two doors and could seat four people in luxurious comfort. The hood was built to the usual Mercedes standards and folded away without any unsightly "bulges".
Mercedes unveiled its new six cylinder 220 models in 1959 introducing the second generation of saloons and coupes to use the 220 model designation. Like the previous 220 the new cars had a 2195cc six cylinder engine with choice of either S or SE specifications. The more expensive SE Coupe and Cabriolet models featured fuel injection and 1962 disc brakes.
The 220 Cabriolet shared its two door body with the Coupe although a fully lined soft-top replaced the usual roof. Unlike the smaller engined "Fintail" models the 220 came with "stacked" headlamps either side of the traditional Mercedes grille. Production continued until 1965.
