In 1952 Skoda introduced the 1200 series with an entirely new body with no use of wood.  The car appeared similar mechanically to its forerunners but the engine was now increased to 1,221 cc to achieve 36 bhp at 4,000 rpm.  Everything had got bigger with the 1200.  The wheelbase was now 2,690 mm (106 in) and the overall length now 4,500 mm (177 in).  The estate car version of this series remained in production until 1970.
